If you went to college prior to 2010, you may remember that dorm rooms and student apartments had a real concrete cell, prison-y, 1980s doctor's office waiting room type of vibe. But over the last decade they've transformed into swanky, creative, thoughtfully designed student sanctuaries. Those horny texters live like kings! (Bonus points if you know what that line is from – also, we need to be friends! )
Curt Christian of Function First Furniture was the pioneer of this student housing revolution. And when he realized his DIY logo wasn't an accurate representation the modern, innovative, influential business he'd created, I was thrilled to help.
Curt leans into big, bold designs, so we stuck with the original color scheme that demands attention and jumps out amongst a sea of same-ness.
One of my favorite things about this logo is all of the little personalized, secret treats.
The company name – Function First Furniture – is often shortened by employees and customers to "F3", so if you look close, you'll notice the symbol is an F and a 3. Adding some angling turned the characters into the facade of a building (dorm, apartments); with the negative space creating a roof, windows, and entrance. Lastly, those three little stars to the left are a nod to F3's home state of Tennessee, whose flag features three stars enclosed in a circle.
